Forward helix piercing
The forward helix is a piercing of the front edge of the rim, the one closer to the face. The zone is narrow, so the jewellery has to be short: micro barbells are taken here, not regular ones.

The material decides how the piercing heals.

Size
The front edge of the cartilage is thinner than the top, so a long bar sags and catches here. The guide is 5–6 mm after healing, a millimetre more right after the piercing while the swelling lasts.
Double and triple
A forward helix is rarely done alone — more often two or three piercings vertically along the edge. The jewellery is chosen the same in thickness but different in the top.
Healing
From 6 to 9 months. The zone is exposed and often caught by glasses and masks — during healing that is the main source of irritation.
Size and material
| Material | 316L steel — 14 models. Cheaper, corrosion-resistant, suitable for a healed piercing. For the first jewellery titanium is the better choice. Titanium — 13 models. Contains no nickel, so it causes no reaction even in a fresh piercing. Lighter than steel — less load on the tissue. The material of first choice. |

| Bar length | 6 mm — 22 models, 8 mm — 16 models, 10 mm — 11 models, 12 mm — 4 models. A longer bar is needed while the swelling lasts, a shorter one — for a healed piercing. |
| Thread | Internal — 17 models, External — 10 models. An internal thread is hidden inside the bar — it does not scratch the channel when changing. |
