Inner labia

Thin, richly supplied with blood, and among the fastest piercings there are: 4–8 weeks. A 1.6 mm ring, 8–10 mm across.

Outer labia

Thicker tissue and a deeper channel: 2–4 months, and a larger 12–16 mm ring so it rests rather than cuts in.

Why a ring rather than a barbell

A ring moves with the fold; a straight bar presses on one point in mobile tissue, and that is where irritation appears.

Size and material

Material	Titanium — 4 models. Contains no nickel, so it causes no reaction even in a fresh piercing. Lighter than steel — less load on the tissue. The material of first choice. 316L steel — 3 models. Cheaper, corrosion-resistant, suitable for a healed piercing. For the first jewellery titanium is the better choice.
Thickness	1.2 mm — 5 models, 1 mm — 4 models, 0.8 mm — 3 models. The thickness must match the one the piercing was made with.
Bar length	10 mm — 6 models, 6 mm — 6 models, 8 mm — 6 models, 12 mm — 4 models. A longer bar is needed while the swelling lasts, a shorter one — for a healed piercing.
Ring diameter	10 mm — 7 models, 8 mm — 7 models, 6 mm — 6 models, 9 mm — 5 models. A smaller diameter sits tighter, a bigger one — looser and more visible.
Thread	Threadless — 7 models.
Insert	None — 3 models, Cubic zirconia — 2 models.
