Types of nose piercing
The nose offers more placements per square centimetre than anywhere else, and almost each one needs its own jewellery shape.
Nostril
Through the wing of the nostril — a nose screw, a 1 mm micro labret or a small ring.
High nostril
The same piercing placed higher. A ring has nothing to hold on to up there — labret or nose screw only.
Septum
Not through cartilage but through the thin sweet spot below it, which is why it heals faster than people expect. An 8–10 mm clicker or circular barbell.
Bridge
A horizontal surface piercing across the bridge of the nose. Straight 1.2 mm barbell, longer healing, higher rejection risk.
Septril
Downward through the tip of the septum — only on a stretched septum.
Nasallang
Vertically through the tip of the nose, through cartilage; up to a year to heal.
What a nose piercing is
Two different piercings are done in the nose. The septum goes through the thin soft strip of the partition and heals in 2–3 months. The nostril goes through the wing of the nose and heals in 4–6 months.
Their sizes differ too: the septum holds a thickness of 1.2–1.6 mm, the nostril 0.8–1 mm. Jewellery for one does not fit the other.
Septum and nostril are not interchangeable. This is the most common mistake when buying: people take a ring «for the nose», and it turns out too thick for the nostril or too small for the septum. Check which piercing it is for.
Size and material
