Where a curve beats a straight bar
Anywhere the channel is not straight. A banana follows the fold of the navel or the eyebrow, so it presses on nothing when the body moves. Putting a straight bar in a curved channel is how migration starts.
Sizes and materials
Gauge 1.2–1.6 mm, length 6–25 mm. Beyond steel and titanium there is bioplast — a flexible polymer bar used when the piercing has to bend with the body, for instance during pregnancy.

FAQ
Which size should I choose?
The typical size for this zone is 1.2–1.6 mm thick, 8–10 mm long. Jewellery smaller than needed presses on the channel, bigger — catches on clothes and hair. The exact size of each model is given on its page.
What length of curved barbell do I need?
For the navel the standard is 10 mm, for the eyebrow 8 mm. For a fresh piercing take one 2–3 mm longer: the swelling of the first weeks is not going anywhere, and a short bar sinks into it.
Where is a curved barbell worn apart from the navel?
In the eyebrow and the rook — these are usual places for it, not exceptions. The curve is needed where the tissue bends or lies at an angle and a straight bar would dig in with its ends. The sizes differ: for the navel take 1.6 mm thickness, for the eyebrow and rook — 1.2 mm and a shorter length.
Why is titanium better than steel?
Titanium is about half the weight and contains no nickel. 316L steel is also fit for wearing, but there is nickel in it, and people sensitive to nickel feel it. For a fresh piercing titanium is the safer choice.
