Ear cuffs
An ear cuff needs no piercing: a wide band clips onto the rim of the ear and stays there by spring tension. It is the way to try a helix look without a needle.

Choosing the size
The standard is 8–10 mm across, which fits almost any ear rim. A cuff should sit firmly without pinching — squeeze the band a millimetre if it slides off, open it slightly if it presses.
Cuff or clip-on fake
Both skip the piercing, but they are different pieces. A cuff is a wide band on the cartilage and reads as a helix from the side. A clip-on fake imitates a stud or a plug and sits on the lobe.
Wearing time
All day, but take it off at night for the first few days — the band presses on cartilage and long pressure leaves a mark. 316L steel, so water is not a problem.
Kinds of ear cuff
The band can be narrow — a thin ring on the very edge of the cartilage, barely visible from the side. Or wide, spanning the ear: that one climbs along the rim and reads as several piercings at once. A chain cuff is its own thing: one part grips the cartilage, the other sits in the lobe, and a chain links them — which is why it needs an existing lobe piercing. A stone or plain steel is finish only; it does not change how the cuff sits.
