How a clicker works

One segment of the ring swings out on a hinge and snaps back into place. Nothing unscrews, so there is nothing to drop. Open it with your fingers, not a nail — prying the segment sideways is what kills the hinge.

Where they go

Septum, nostril, ear cartilage, lobe, eyebrow. Diameter is picked for the area: 6–8 mm for cartilage and nostril, 8 mm for a septum, 10–12 mm for a lobe or lip.

Material

Titanium contains no nickel at all, which is why it is the default for a fresh piercing and for skin that reacts. Steel is a reasonable choice once the channel has healed.

Size and material

Material	Titanium — 13 models. Contains no nickel, so it causes no reaction even in a fresh piercing. Lighter than steel — less load on the tissue. The material of first choice. 316L steel — 4 models. Cheaper, corrosion-resistant, suitable for a healed piercing. For the first jewellery titanium is the better choice.
Thickness	1.2 mm — 9 models, 1 mm — 4 models, 0.8 mm — 2 models, 1.6 mm — 1 model. The thickness must match the one the piercing was made with.
Bar length	8 mm — 8 models, 10 mm — 7 models, 12 mm — 5 models, 6 mm — 5 models. A longer bar is needed while the swelling lasts, a shorter one — for a healed piercing.
Ring diameter	8 mm — 14 models, 10 mm — 10 models, 6 mm — 6 models, 9 mm — 4 models. A smaller diameter sits tighter, a bigger one — looser and more visible.

FAQ

Which size should I choose?

The typical size for this zone is 1.2 mm thick, diameter 8–12 mm. Jewellery smaller than needed presses on the channel, bigger — catches on clothes and hair. The exact size of each model is given on its page.

How does a clicker differ from a segment ring?

In a segment ring the insert comes out completely — it is easy to drop on the floor and never find. In a clicker the segment is on a hinge: it swings open but stays on the ring, and can be closed with one hand.

Can a clicker be put in right after the piercing?

Better not. A straight barbell or a labret goes into a fresh piercing — they do not press on the channel during swelling. A clicker is put on after healing.

Why is titanium better than steel?

Titanium is about half the weight and contains no nickel. 316L steel is also fit for wearing, but there is nickel in it, and people sensitive to nickel feel it. For a fresh piercing titanium is the safer choice.
